Set Your Own 2013 Christmas Trends!

christman trends 2013This is just a fun post about 2013 Christmas trends and a little challenge to each of us to remember it’s about GIVING not gifting.  How amazingly outrageous yet extremely effective advertising can be in convincing us otherwise.

For ex: Does Santa smoke?  Did he when you were a kid?  Did he really choose Pall Malls to avoid that scratchy throat??? REALLY!   Ho, Ho, Hack, Hack, Hack… 🙂

It makes me laugh, but 50 years ago people actually chose Pall Malls because of these ads & gave them as gifts too!  Why one would not want to give a cigarette that causes “scratchy throat”!  I think this must be considered a gift in which “It’s the thought that counts!” Right!?!???

The first subliminal message was in 1957 when movie screens popped up “Hungry? Eat Popcorn,” and “Drink CocaCola” during this six week experiment, popcorn sales rose 57.7 % and Coca-Cola sales rose 18.1 %!  NOW think about all the subliminal advertising we “see” everyday.  How about our kids!  Facebook is setting 2013 Christmas trends with kids.  From pandora, magazines, billboards, TV, radio, internet, etc.  How does it subconsciously affect us?  Our purchases?  Our choices?

Growing up we wanted things like dolls and winter coats for Christmas.  Now kids want Beets by Dre and Xbox 1’s for thousands of dollars.  It’s no coincidence that the Xbox One comes out in December.

We’ve set a 2013 Christmas trend ourselves.  If we did not make it, create it, grow it…we don’t give it.  Tis’ the season for gifting or giving?! Giving is the answer but gifting is the expectation.
