Healthy People Initiative…Ha, Just Joking

healthy people 2020Ok, I apologize for my cynicism but really?!?!!?  Come on.  The government started the “Healthy People” Campaign 30+ years ago with a goal “for improving the health of all Americans”.  Oops, what the heck happened?

Worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980.

Cardiovascular diseases (mainly heart disease and stroke) were the leading cause of death in 2008.

In 2010, around 43 million children under five were overweight.

1 in 2.5 people will get cancer in their lifetime (30 years ago it was 1 in 8 ) according to 2010 CDC statistics.

Are we really healthy people?  Is this initiative really working?

Here is an excerpt from the Healthy People website:

About Healthy People Healthy People 2020 is committed to the vision of a society in which all people live long, healthy lives.  Healthy People provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. For 3 decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time in order to:

  • Encourage collaborations across sectors.
  • Guide individuals toward making informed health decisions.
  • Measure the impact of prevention activities.

I wonder what “prevention activities” they are referring to?  Maybe we need to make our own initiative to be healthy people.  Maybe WE know what’s best for us.

I no longer trust a government that allows GMO, excitotoxins, irradiation, Cancer causing agents and more in our foods.  I have never trusted a synthesized pharmaceutical to be the “cure” for anything.

Unfortunately, when the pharmaceutical companies came up with the “Ask Your Dr.” campaign in 1990’s America sat back and watched then went and asked their Dr.

Let’s pull our heads out and realize that we really should “ask our Dr.” how a 30 second commercial for a pill for high cholesterol with 22 seconds of horrific side effects could really be the answer!

Healthy People vs. Western Medicine

You see, over 2500 years ago the “Father of Western medicine” said    “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Hippocrates, 460 B.C.

Even the Chinese refer to medicine as food, chi yao, means “eat medicine” and this centuries-old Chinese wisdom of using medicinal foods to fill the belly, nourish the soul, and heal the b o d y has created truly healthy people.

Western medicine started out on the right path but quickly became a science experiment on mankind.  We must get back to basics.

Let the foods of the land provide health & vitality or look forward to a life long dependence on medications meant to destroy our bodies natural ability to heal itself.   Either way, the choice IS yours.

To your health,

Dani
