High price of “hidden hunger”

By Dani Walker

(If UNICEF is aware of this, then you should be too!  Our families are paying a very high price for “empty” food!)
“Vitamin and mineral deficiency is the source of the most massive ‘hidden hunger’ and malnutrition in the world today. The ‘hidden hunger’ due to micronutrient deficiency does not produce hunger as we know it.” said UNICEF’s Deputy Executive Director Mr. Kul C. Gautam, at a press conference at UNICEF House this morning. “You might not feel it in the belly, but it strikes at the core of your health and vitality.  It remains widespread, posing devastating threats to health, education, economic growth and to human dignity in developing countries.” http://www.unicef.org/nutrition/index_hidden_hunger.html

The fact of the matter is – even the tiniest deficiencies or imbalances of trace minerals can affect our health profoundly.   My Father was diagnosed with Mylo Neuropathy after almost 4 years of tests.  His specialists told him it was a very serious copper deficiency that caused his symptoms. This deficiency happened slowly over 40 years before it started causing any symptoms & almost took his life.  Proof of the dependence our bodies have to the minerals we are supposed to be getting from our food.  We eat for a reason…. we NEED nutrients to LIVE!  80 decline in the mineral content of vegetables…

This disturbing but true information causes me to believe that nutrition for the 21st century mean supplementing our diets with live, whole food, super saturated supplements.  With so many available I advise you to do your homework.  Takin advice from the kid behind the counter at GNC may not be your best bet.
