First off, I was in our family garden yesterday picking the bounty and sad to know the children of this generation still think most food comes in a box or a microwavable carton…but we’ll save that rant for another day. Today I want to share with you what we ALL should know about Monsanto & Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO).
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) have been altered by humans who force non-food genes – from other species – into the DNA of plants, changing the very nature of the food itself. Monsanto’s mutated seeds have taken over 90% of the U. S. soy crop and 95% of the corn. Wheat and fish are next on their agenda. Despite growing resistance around the world, GMO’s are still on the rise.
Foods containing GMOs DON’T have to be labeled in the USA. Say WHAAAAT!
Monsanto has fought hard to prevent labeling laws. Not surprising, since approximately 70% of processed foods in the US now contain GMO ingredients. The European Union, Japan, China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and many other nations now require mandatory GMO labeling.
So why doesn’t Monsanto want us to know what they are really putting in our food???? Why do they want to make it illegal to plant any seed but Monsanto seed??? Why?
Other than their ginormous lobbying budget MONSANTO has given $31,132,584 to 3,581 different filers spanning 29 years.
Under the new “Monsanto Protection Act” GMO crops can be planted and grown without courts stopping them, even if there is evidence of danger (see Section 735 of H.R. 933), until an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is prepared — which can take years.
In the U.S., GMOs don’t yet have to be labeled. Currently, up to 85% of U.S. corn is genetically engineered (GE), as are 91% of soybeans and 88% of cotton (cottonseed oil is often used in food products). It has been estimated that upwards of 75% of processed foods on supermarket shelves – from soda to soup, crackers to condiments – contain genetically engineered ingredients.

Due to mass consumer pressure, major retailers such as Safeway, Publix, Wal-Mart, and Kroger banned store brand milk products containing Monsanto’s controversial genetically engineered hormone rBGH. Starbucks, under pressure from the OCA and our allies, also banned rBGH milk. (which is why all milk products now label if they do NOT use rBGH)
A recent court ruling found that there **ARE** THREE differences between ORGANIC and rbST/rBGH Monsanto milk:
These are just a few reasons why we drink organic coconut milk.
Monsanto seeds have been proven to cause food allergies and major health issues:
Some GMO foods have been proven in laboratory tests (on rats AND mammals including monkeys) to CAUSE: NEW allergies, cancer, sterility (consumers losing their ability to get pregnant and have babies), miscarriages, seizures, and even death!
Last but not least (there are millions of Monsanto facts we should know about) Monsanto puts small farmers out of business and we should ALL have the freedom to grow our own food using any damn seed we want! With or without GMO’s, RoundUp Ready etc.
Well, you know what I have to say to Monsanto….Kiss My Carrots!
