Before Sarcoidosis we really did not have a “health care” plan. We were young & always thought we were going to be healthy. We had health insurance, which I now refer to as “sickness” insurance because that is exactly what it was used for. We couldn’t get any coverage for actually being healthy & even though we did not want the monthly expense we paid for the security of knowing that if Jack fell out of a tree (we had a tree care company) we would not lose everything due to medical expenses. As you can see from this blog, our plan has changed.
1. The “Ask your Doctor” is OUT… after all this campaign was created by the Pharmaceutical companies to get us to ask our doctor about the drugs these companies make & market, NOT to get us to be healthy. Being healthy is each person’s own responsibility. Finally thinking for ourselves; in 2007 we started taking our health into our own hands and decided that we had the ability to take care of ourselves.
2. Eat, Exercise & Drink! We eat well, play well and hydrate well. Being in the restaurant biz, Calderas is the name I, Dani, have had more opportunity than ever to help sick people. You would not believe the amount of people with food allergies who come in and give me the list of what they CAN’T eat before they order.
3. Detox Everything: your home, your water, your food, your environment. We eat organic and healthy as often as we can. Even though our water comes from the pristine Eagle Cap Mountain Range, we still filter it. I found out two years ago that my make up and lotions, the shampoo, toothpaste etc were all FULL of cancer causing, endocrine disruptive chemicals. Women are 4 times more toxic than men and American teenage girls have on average 13 different hormone altering chemicals in them (all found in personal care products). I threw them out and started buying 100% Toxin Free personal care products for me and my family.
4. If we get in an accident, break a bone… then we go to the Dr. But for now we do all we can in our OWN power to stay healthy, prevent disease & accidents!
From my own experience with insurance, disease and real health, I challenge people to think for themselves. Why wait to get sick before you care about your health? Why are we willing to spend 100’s a month if not 1,000’s for the security of sickness insurance but think $50 is too much to spend on prevention. Did you know that studies show for every dollar spent of prevention you actually save $28 on medical expenses?
Health care is what YOU make it. You can live healthy to the very ripe old age of 150, science has proven it. So why are we dying at 50? Not old age but disease is killing us.
Let me know hos crazy you think I am!!!! Our health care plan is working very well and keeping us well. How about yours?
